Lavender Dog Photography Sessions at Lordington Lavender, Chichester
Every summer, I host my annual dog photography sessions at Lordington Lavender near Chichester in West Sussex. It’s one of the most anticipated days of the year, and I start looking forward to it months in advance. The field is one of the most beautiful locations locally, with rows of soft purple blooms stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s the perfect backdrop for elegant, timeless portraits that celebrate each dog at their very best.
For this event, I privately hire the entire lavender field for the afternoon and evening, giving us exclusive use of the space. With no crowds or distractions, it’s peaceful, secure and ideal for photographing dogs in a calm, natural environment. Each dog has their own individual slot, which keeps the sessions relaxed and personal.
This year, we had eight sessions in one day, and each dog brought their own personality to the field. Some were full of energy, while others were calm and composed. We captured portraits of every single dog that their owners loved, highlighting their unique character against the lavender backdrop. From the first session to the last, it was a full and exciting day, and by the end, both my helper and I were pleasantly tired from such a rewarding experience.
The weather couldn’t have been better, soft overcast light with a gentle breeze, perfect for keeping everyone comfortable and for bringing out the best of the lavender’s colour.
We had a wonderful variety of dogs this year, including a belgian malinois, golden retriever, red setter, bearded collie, labrador, french bulldog, border collies and some lovely cross breeds. Each session captured a different personality and energy, all framed by the unmistakable purple tones of summer.
Many clients chose to create wall art from their sessions, while others opted for keepsake boxes or wall collections. However they chose to display them, each piece serves as a lasting reminder of a perfect summer day surrounded by lavender. A few examples are available to view in this post.
Everyone also received a little goodie bag to take home, a small thank you for being part of such a special day.
Lavender sessions at Lordington Lavender are always in high demand and sell out quickly. Bookings open in early spring each year, and spaces are limited to keep the experience calm and personal. If you’d like to join next year’s event, be sure to register your interest early.
